UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS

Woorden die in het Engels UNCOUNTABLE zijn, maar in het Nederlands COUNTABLE:

• Her advice was invaluable during the challenging times.
• Furniture fills the spacious living room.

UNCOUNTABLES die meestal in het meervoud staan (en waar je een werkwoord in het meervoud gebruikt): 

• The contents of the book captivate the reader.
• Her clothes reflect a vibrant sense of style and personality. 

UNCOUNTABLES die uit twee min of meer gelijke delen bestaan en we dus behandelen als meervoud

• Glasses were perched on her nose as she read the novel.
• Scissors are essential for arts and crafts. 

Soms gebruiken we een bijvoeglijk naamwoord als zelfstandig naamwoord om een hele groep aan te duiden

• The blind rely on guide dogs and canes for daily navigation.
• The rich often face unique challenges.

Sommige woorden duiden een groep aan (group noun). Bij deze group nouns gebruik je een werkwoord in het enkelvoud:

The crew often works tirelessly to prepare the ship.

The family gathers around the dinner table.

The staff ensures the smooth operation of the event.

Sommige woorden duiden een groep aan (group noun). Bij deze group nouns gebruik je een werkwoord in het meervoud

The police investigate the crime scene to gather evidence. 

The cattle graze peacefully in the green pasture. 

Sommige woorden eindigen op -s en lijken daarom op een countable noun in het meervoud. Je gebruikt hier een werkwoord dat in het enkelvoud staat: 

Politics play a crucial role in shaping a nation.
