1. You may have already spoken to Joy, who is always there to answer your questions about LessonUp.
Hello, I'm Joy, the Customer Success Manager at LessonUp. My days are filled with assisting LessonUp users and colleagues, addressing any questions or challenges they may have. Whether it's a user navigating the platform or a colleague seeking support, I make it a priority to promptly lend a helping hand. Others often describe me as someone who is always ready to assist. I find immense joy in brainstorming and crafting innovative solutions, whether for teachers, colleagues, or even for my friends and family at home. The ability to think creatively and provide valuable assistance is a consistent thread that runs through both my personal and professional life.
2. What were you doing before you started at LessonUp?
I graduated from the hotel school and delved into the hospitality industry, initially working in restaurants, primarily as a hostess. Given my natural inclination to assist and help people, the service industry was a perfect fit for me.
In my current capacity at LessonUp, I continue to extend a helping hand, although my focus has shifted from guests to teachers. The beauty of service-oriented roles lies in the constant interaction with people, a dynamic I've experienced both in restaurants and now at LessonUp.
One of the most satisfying aspects of my job is being able to provide teachers with effective solutions and pleasantly surprising them in the process. Frequently, the key lies in asking insightful questions and delving into the underlying issues. For instance, when a teacher expresses a desire to save time during lesson planning, I often suggest exploring our lesson library, where they can find lessons made by other teachers or content creators. The beauty of it is that they can personalise slides to create a lesson tailored to their students' needs.
3. What does a customer success manager do?
As a Customer Success Manager at LessonUp, my role revolves around providing continuous support to teachers. This involves addressing queries, offering valuable tips, and creating helpful articles. Additionally, I play a crucial role in organising workshops and webinars for teachers. Collaborating extensively with our certified educators, I contribute to the planning of events to enhance teachers' familiarity with our digital toolkit.
I take pleasure in overseeing the creation and management of webinars as part of my role. Our webinar offerings encompass different formats, such as 'live' sessions and 'on demand'. The 'on demand' option enables teachers to view the content at their convenience, catering to individual preferences.
4. What is the question you are asked most often?
Many teachers ask, 'How do I make my lesson interactive without spending too much time on it?' This is easily done by adding interactive assessment features, such as a quiz, a spinner or a poll, for instance. But I also tell them that we have a library with hundreds of lessons, and learning techniques.
Some teachers encourage their students to participate to an interactive lesson by using their phones, tablets or laptops. The key concern is often how to maintain student concentration. The solution lies in keeping the lesson engagingālimiting the amount of text and complementing it with interactive features.
5. What is your favourite interactive feature in LessonUp and why?
I particularly love the interactive video feature. At school I used to struggle with distractions and found it challenging to remember information from videos. Knowing that a question would follow after, say, two minutes would have significantly helped. The interactive video allows you to pause and ask a question, ensuring students stay engagedāit's so simple yet incredibly effective! Another of my personal favourites is the spinner. What I like about the spinner is that eventually every student gets the random opportunity to actively participate.
A spinner can be placed in any slide, whenever and wherever you want. It's easy to implement and use in the classroom as a random name-picker. Why not give it a try?
