Betrekkelijke voornaamwoorden: who, which, that, those

Functie:

- Zinnen aan elkaar koppelen

- je verwijst ermee naar personen, dieren of dingen die al eerder genoemd zijn

Relative pronouns

- Who/that bij personen

- Which/that bij dieren en dingen

- Whose geeft bezit aan (van wie)

Voorbeelden:

The teacher whose calculator I stole is my maths teacher.

The singer who/that gave the show is very impressive

The food which/that was left on the counter was eaten by the cat.

Relative pronouns

• Verwijzen terug naar een eerder genoemd woord
  
• Verbinden twee zinsdelen aan elkaar
• Een betrekkelijke bijzin geeft extra informatie over iets of iemand.

Imperatives

The imperative is what we in Dutch call:

de gebiedende wijs.

So the imperative is used to instruct people, to tell them what to do. Of course you can also tell people NOT to do something. 

For example: Do speak/ Do not speak!

The Imperative 

Which sentence is written in the imperative?

1. Run away! As fast as you can!
2. Can you run away, please?
3. My mother never told me to run.
4. Did he run away?

Which sentence gives an order?

1. Could you stay away from the fire, please?
2. Don't go near the fire!
3. You can not go near the fire!
4. We must put out the fire!
