A few house rules for when I'm teaching
  • My voice isn't very loud, so please be silent when I'm speaking, but also when others are speaking
  • Please be patient when I ask for silence or repetition, because I'm deaf
  • I'm okay with a lot if you just ask first (drinking, music, etc)
  • Honesty is key

Skimming
Skimming can be used to find out the main idea of a text.

How to skim:
  1. Read the text quickly, read the title, headlines, look at images
  2. Look for key words that stand out
  3. You don't need to know all the words to understand a text

  2. Try to find key words that also show up in the question (a name, date, etc)
  3. When you find the key words, read very carefully. Also read the sentences around it.
