When we tell someone what another person said, we usually change the verb tenses from the direct speech.

Reported speech - changes
- Sometimes you need to change the pronoun and the adverbs of time and place:
'We spoke earlier today.'  - He said (that) THEY had spoken earlier that day.
'I'll phone tomorrow.' - She told me (that) she would phone the next day.
now / then  ; yesterday / the day before; here/ there; this/ that

  • Yes/ No questions - ASK = IF/ WHETHER
'Do you enjoy the work?' I asked him if he ENJOYED the work.
'Have you visited your grandma?' I asked him if/ whether he HAD VISITED his grandma.

WH- questions: use the same question word, then change the verb tenses, pronouns and adverbs of time and place if necessary.
