The past perfect emphasizes the order of past actions, showing that one action happened before another.

Review
Lena had always dreamed of visiting Paris, but she never had the chance before. Last summer, she finally booked a flight and arrived at the airport excited, but nervous. She had saved money for months and planned every detail of the trip. When she landed, she realized that her luggage had been lost, which was a huge disappointment. By the time she reported it to the airline, she had already missed a chance to visit the Eiffel Tower at sunset. Still, she decided to explore the city without her bags. As she wandered through the streets, she stumbled upon a charming café where she had the best coffee she’d ever tasted. She had never felt so happy, despite everything that had gone wrong.
