So if they only met last week, they couldn't have been friends since school. (otherwise they would say see instead of meet).

Keep in mind who is writing the message. Since Mikel wrote it, when he says "you" he doesn't mean himself but the person he is writing to, in this case Lucia. She is the one who has never seen snow.
