  • Everything you eat is called food(stuffs). 
  • Food consists of substances your body needs --> nutrients.
  • Nutrients can be used as : fuel, building material, protection or as a reserve.

What nutrients are there?
Carbohydrates
Have a lot of energy because they get broken down in glucose. Mainly used as a fuel for your body. 
Protein
Proteins are used to make new cells, think of muscle cells or when you have an injury.

Fats
Fats are used as a reserve for the carbohydrates.
Vitamins and mineral
Lots of different substances with several functions. Offer protection and help your immune system.
Water
Most important building material of your body.

  • Fibers aren't really a nutrient, but are still important for your digestive system.
  • Fibers consist of carbohydrates made of plants that your body can't break down. 
  • They are important because they keep your gut bacteria healthy.
