For what do we use the first conditional again?

If-sentences

first conditional:

• If the if-sentence is true, the chances are big that the main-sentence will happen.
  

second conditional:

If-sentences, second conditional

You use the second conditional for things that are almost impossible in the present. Unlikely effect in the future.

• If I won the lottery, I would buy a house.
  
• If I weren’t teaching right now, I wouldn’t be here.
  

If you use a form of to be in the if-sentence (with the second conditional), you always use were instead of was.

• If I were a soccer player, I would be really fit.
