Was going to + whole verb
Same use as is going to, but for past.

Used for:
- Plans (I was going to study, but I forgot)
- Predictions (Based on how I was feeling, I felt like I was going to be ill all week)

Used for :
- Things that very close to happening 
(I was just about to ask you where you found such ugly shoes)
- Interrupted events, esp. in combination with 'when'
(We were about to start on our homework, when Nazim asked for another cookie and disrupted the lesson).

Used to:
- Talk about events that actually happened
(I was to be named the coolest teacher in b12)
(I was to receive an award for my outstanding humour)
