A LOT OF / MUCH / MANY
"A lot of", "much" en "many" gebruik je allemaal om te zeggen dat er veel van iets is. Je gebruikt ze in verschillende situaties.
"A lot of" (of "lots of") gebruik je bij bevestigende zinnen. Dat zijn alle zinnen die geen vraagzinnen zijn en/of geen ontkenning (het woordje "not) bevatten.

"Much" en "many" gebruik je bij vraagzinnen en bij ontkennende zinnen. Welke woord je moet gebruiken hangt af van datgene waar er veel van is/zijn.
Kun je het tellen, dan gebruik je "many". Kun je het niet tellen? Dan gebruik je "much".

A LOT OF / MUCH / MANY
Of iets wel of niet telbaar is kun je controleren door er een willekeurig getal voor te zetten:
boats > 3 boats > mogelijk, dus telbaar
money > 3 money > onmogelijk, dus ontelbaar
Net als 'money' is 'water' en ' time' ook ontelbaar. Euro's, liters en minuten zijn daarentegen wel telbaar.

Uitzondering: In bevestigende zinnen gebruik je "a lot of" (of "lots of"), behalve na de woorden VERY, SO, TOO en HOW. Dan gebruik je much/many:
He loved his dog very much.
There are too many people here.
Ookal zijn dit bevestigende zinnen, "He loved his dog a lot of" klinkt natuurlijk niet.
