A small history lesson
There are many, many kangaroo species (soorten) in Australia. You have wallabies, grey kangaroos, red kangaroos & even 'tree kangaroos'. A very interesting one is the Quokka. This is a very tiny kangaroo species that only lives on an island off the West Coast called: 'Rottnest island'.  This island got its name because Dutch explorers arrived here in the 17th century and landed on this island in search of India. They saw the cute, little animals and thought they were 'rats'. So they called the island: 'rattennest eiland'. The English, who arrived later, re-named the island to 'Rottnest Island'.

Slide 5 - Slide

explorer = ontdekkingsreiziger (denk aan de reizigers die op zoek gingen naar landen zoals Indonesië en die vaarden voor de VOC).
