- can talk about dates.

Slide 2 - Slide

This item has no instructions

Pronunciation
'Stress'. - the emphasis placed in a word or sentence.
Camping.                            Hiking                         Summer

We're going camping next weekend.
Are you going mountain biking in the summer?

Slide 3 - Slide

until 13:20/23
What is pronunciation again?
What does emphasis mean?
Listen to me pronounce these 3 words. Where is the stress/emphasis in these words?
Okay, next, I'll read out the sentence. Which words/parts of words are stressed/emphasised?
We're going camping next weekend.
Are you going mountain biking in the summer?
Read them out without any stress or intonation to show students the importance of stress, then read out the sentences at normal speaking speed and ask who'd like to give it a try and then repeat them more slowly, really putting extra emphasis on the words that are stressed.
Pronunciation
You try!
1. I'm doing my homework this evening (which words are important and need extra emphasis?)

Something else:
2. I like to bake pancakes! - put the stress on each word and find out the difference in meaning!

Slide 4 - Slide

until 13:25
Okay read out the first sentence the way I did. Where would the stress be? What is the most important information that you'd like to get across.
I'm doing my homework this evening (or I'm doing my homework this evening)
Now I'd like you to try to read out these sentences. Try to put the stress/emphasis on each word. How does it change the meaning?

Dates - pg. 45
What are the months of the year?

17th August.      21st November.      3rd February.

Slide 5 - Slide

until 13:30
Alright, that was about stress in pronunciation. Now we'll continue on to the listening exercise. First of all, we're going to see if you already know how to say dates. For that, we need to know the months that come in a year. Who can tell the class all the months of the year?
Next ask students to write down how to say the following 3 dates (from the book). And ask a random student to read out the 3 dates for me.
This is important to know for the listening ex. which we'll continue with now.

Students raise their hand and do not yell through the classroom, even though they might be excited because they know something. I want to be able to give others a turn as well. And to be able to hear what people are saying, which I cannot do if they are all talking through each other.
Listening - pg. 45
Look at the 'exciting New Adventure Holiday'.
There's some information missing.

Fill in the missing information while listening to the fragment. (2 min).

Slide 6 - Slide

until 13:35
Look at the brochure on pg. 45 about an Adventure Holiday. There's some information missing. We'll listen to the fragment and you fill in the missing information.

While listening, students are quiet and write along with the ex. Afterwards, we'll check the answers.
