What is a phrasal verb?
Phrasal verbs:
A group of words that is used as a verb
Examples: back down, balance out, come down from… etc.

Slide 4 - Slide

Explanation in Dutch:
Bestaande werkwoorden (to look, to do) kunnen talloze nieuwe betekenissen krijgen door toevoeging van een bijwoord, een voorzetsel of een combinatie van een bijwoord en een voorzetsel. Zo’n woordgroep heet dan een phrasal verb.
Voorbeelden met ' to look': to look up to, to look away from, to look forward to.
Voorbeelden met ' to do': to do in, to do unto, to do up, to do away with.
*De zuiverste phrasal verbs hebben zonder een toevoeging van bv. zo'n bijwoord of voorzetsel geen betekenis.
Voorbeeld met 'to sum' heeft geen betekenis, to sum up wel >>>> opsommen
