This aim of this lesson is to help you understand and use the various future tenses. The book lists 8 ways of speaking about the future:
will + verb
to be going to + verb
present continuous
present simple
be + infinitive
future continuous
future perfect
future in the past (was/were going to/ would + verb)

Don't panic
It may seem like a lot, 8 different forms, but you've had most of these tenses before or are in some way already familiar with them.
Many of you tend to use them correctly as well. So what we will do is go over them again, one by one, and take an extra look at the newer and more important ones.
We will answer the questions on the next slides before we move onto the explanations.

to be going to + verb:
future plans that will happen soon - I'm going to help Dad in the garden this afternoon.
intentions (to do sth) - James says he is going to work harder.
predictions based on facts or events in the present - It's going to snow tonight

I am having a meeting at two o'clock
Talking about plans and arrangements for the (near) future. There is a time reference that makes this future meaning clear:
- What are you doing tonight?
- Johnny's starting school next September.

full verb/ verb + -s (he/she/it): The new pool is due to open in April.
timetables and schedules: The plane leaves at 10:45. (It is now 08:15)
future plans/intentions that are likely to happen: NASA plans to send more rockets to Mars.
Definitive (and unchangeable) planned events: The new pool is due to open in April.
future references in subordinate clauses after time conjunctions like when, before, until, as soon as: We'll reply when we hear from you. / Text me as soon as you get home.

an action or event in progress at a specific time in the future:
This time next week I will be skiing in Austria.
By time you arrive tomorrow, we will be eating dinner.
From 9 to 12 this Friday, it will be storming heavily along the coast.

Future in the past
was/were going to + verb ór would + verb
In the past, you though something would happen in the future, whether you were right or not.
Future in the past follows the same rules as the Future simple. "Would + verb" is used to volunteer or promise and "was going to + verb" is used to plan. Both can be used for predictions.
I thought it would be cold today, but it isn't.
By the time I graduated I knew I wasn't going to work as a translator.
He thought he would buy a PS 5 the next day, but they were all sold out.

Be + to & infinitive (to+ww)
This particular form is used in formal English. You can see it in rules and instructions, or to talk about official plans. You often see it in news reports.
School rules state that you are not to use the lifts unless you have permission.
The king and queen are to visit Indonesia for a week in June.
