Modal Verbs 2

Do you remember all the modal verbs we learned last time? (bonus points for sentences!)

Modal verbs have a number of ​

different functions

Let's revise!

1. Ability (​can, can’t, could, couldn’t, be able to)
2. Permission (may, can, be allowed to, be permitted to)
3. Prohibition​ (mustn’t, may not, can’t, not be allowed to, not be permitted to)
4. Obligation (must, have to, have got to, need to) or no obligation​ (don’t have to, haven’t got to, don’t need to, needn’t)
5. Advice (should/shouldn’t, ought (not) to, had better (not)) and past regrets (shouldn’t have + past participle)

6. Requests

We use will, would + infinitive for requests.

• Please will you put that box in the cupboard for me?
  
• Would you help me for a minute, please?
  

Would is more polite than will.
