Observing and experimentation led to new scientific laws. This method was called empirical thinking. You could prove why lightning existed.
A lot of new ideas started floating around, and replaced the religious ideas.
The Republic got their own university in Leiden in 1575. It was founded by William of Orange, because students couldn't go to other Universities in Spaninsh held territories.
The Republic had no censorship. Everybody could write what the liked!
