First of all, it is very important to be able to: 
  1. Recognize the grammatical structure 
  2. Understand why a tense is used
  3. Practice the tenses

Practice the verb forms!

Verb forms are one of the biggest challenges in learning grammar. Verb forms change a verb in some way to tell you information about it.
Verb forms
There are two types of verbs: Regular & Irregular
  • Regular verbs -> follow the base rule 
  • Irregular verbs -> don't follow any rule!
However, you can find the right verb form for a sentence even with irregular verbs. How? Practice, practice, practice.

6 tips:
  1. Be aware of grammar. 
  2. Read a lot of English books
  3. Concentrate on the aspects of grammar you personally find most difficult.
  4. Try to work out the patterns and rules of the language for yourself.
  5. Practice! Practice! Practice! 
  6. Learn the common irregular verbs

Word order!
English sentences (almost) always use the same word order!
Exception: Passive Voice!

Word order can help you while studying tenses: questions and negatives often work a little different in word order than positive sentences
