Zegt iets over (en staat voor) een zelfstandig naamwoord:
mensen, dieren, dingen
- beautiful bird
- strong person
Achter een koppelwerkwoord:
- The soup smells fantastic.
- Lisa was angry.

Zegt iets over werkwoorden, bijwoorden, bijvoeglijke nw
Zegt hoe iets gebeurt of hoe iets gedaan wordt.

- Please listen carefully.

Zet -ly achter het bijvoeglijk naamwoord
Uitzonderingen:
- Medeklinker + -le = -le wordt -ly
- Medeklinker + -y = -y wordt -ily
- ic = -ic wordt - ically

Gentle = gently
Happy = happily
Fantastic = fantastically
