Explanation

Started and ended in the past: past simple (I worked, we didn't live)

Started in the past and is still going on: present perfect (I have worked here since..)

Facts and habits: present simple (I work here, he lives there)

Giving instruction

What's the difference

Instructions

- Allowed to: sth you can do because of rules, authority. "you are allowed to use a dictionary during your exam".

- Must: an obligation because of rules. "You must wear a hair net in the kitchen"

- Have to: still an obligation, but not because of authority. "I have to wake up at 6".

- should: advice, it's better if you do it, but not an obligation. "You should tell him you love him".

- can: for asking and giving permission. "can I sit here?"

Last but not least

- Imperative: gebiedende wijs

- Entire verb, at beginning of sentence

"Put your phone down"

"Grab this stick"

Exercise

For the following situations, create guilines/instructions:

- Working in the SVO kitchen

- Handling money at work

- Your house rules

Use the obligation/permission words. Use the imperative for instructions.
