1.What are the characteristics of the flower, leaf and stem?

2.Which part of the plant is not visible in the pictures?

Slide 8 - Slide

Organs
  • Roots = absorption of water and minerals (nutritional salts) from the soil.
  • Stem = transport of water and nutrients
  • Leaves = making nutrients
  • Flower = reproduction

Slide 9 - Slide

Details
Cell = smallest building block of plants

Tissue = a group of cells with the same shape and function

Slide 10 - Slide

Plant cell
  • Cell wall = solid (stevige) layer
  • Cell membrane = regulates what substances enter and leave the cell
  • Cytoplasm = viscous (stroperige) fluid
  • Cell nucleus = control center of the cell
  • Vacuole = Vesicle with water for firmness/turgidity (stevigheid)
  • Leafy green granules = Green structures that make nutrients.

Slide 12 - Slide

How do plants keep upright?
Herbaceous plants: need water for firmness.

Woody plants: have ligneous cells (houtcellen) for strength; continue to grow.

Lignin = houtstof

What?
Make 5.1: assignments 3-12
How?
In your workbook (or computer). Use the information from your textbook.
Help?
You may gently consult with your neighbor. Raise your hand if the two of you can't figure it out.
Time?
10 minutes
Finished?
Make a diagram of the parts of the plant cell like the one on the next slide (but in English!).
Product
You have practiced 5.1.
