Uitzondering 1 

Woorden die eindigen op een sisklank (-s/-z/-x/-ch/-sh) krijgen -es in plaats van -s:

bus - buses                                            Spreek uit als -iz

coach - coaches

box - boxes

mass - masses

Uitzondering 2 

Woorden die eindigen op -o krijgen soms -es, maar soms ook gewoon een -s (uit je hoofd leren of opzoeken).

Uitzondering 3

Sommige woorden die eindigen op -f(e) krijgen -ves in het meervoud. Dit zijn bijvoorbeeld de woorden calf, half, life, wife en wolf (uit je hoofd leren).

shelf - shelves                                  cuff - cuffs

Als een woord eindigt op een medeklinker + -y, dan verandert -y in -ies. 

                                                             maar NIET na een klinker+y

Onregelmatige meervoud

Er zijn ook woorden die in het meervoud een andere vorm krijgen (uit je hoofd leren):

child - children                                        mouse, louse - mice, lice

man - men                                                 woman - women

foot - feet                                                   person- people                              tooth - teeth

Altijd meervoud

Woorden voor brillen, broeken en scharen staan altijd in het meervoud. Ze horen voorafgegaan te worden door pair(s) of. In het enkelvoud gebruik je a pair of in plaats van het lidwoord a.

a pair of scissors - 4 pairs of scissors

pyjamas, knickers, glasses, binoculars, trousers, jeans, shorts

werkwoorden

Woorden waarbij je aan een groep denkt, worden altijd gevolgd door een persoonsvorm in het meervoud in het Brits Engels.
