Second Conditional

If school was cancelled today, what would you do?
If school was cancelled, I'd go to the beach.

What part-time job would you get if you needed some money?
I would work in a garden centre if I needed some money.

What's the structure?

  • if + past simple , would + verb
  • would + verb...if + past simple

When do we use it?
  • imaginary / hypothetical situation + result (in the present or future) = fictieve / hypothetische situatie + resultaat (in het heden of de toekomst)
Notes
'd = would
If I/he/she/it + were = bc it's imaginary, we use were!
(not If I/he/she/it was)

Writing and speaking
Open your paper notebook. Get into groups of 3-4
Everybody Completes the sentences pretending to be one of these characters = everybody writes a sentence!

Then, one by one read your sentence and the others guess the character!
You can ask questions for more info ;)
Then the next person reads their sentence...

e.g. = example
A: If I decided to get a pet, I would get a pit bull.
-> Rest: Why a pit bull?
-> A: They're cool & dangerous.
-> Rest: Are you the young guy?
