The nucleus
  • Contains chromosomes
  • Chromosomes > DNA
  • Contains hereditary characteristics
Chromosome
Cell
Basepair
Hereditary?
(of a disease or characteristic) given to a child by its parents before it is born

Slide 17 - Slide

Chromosomes
  • Chromosomes are visible during cell division
  • Human: 46 chromosomes.
  • Every body cell contains 46 chromosomes
  • Body cells in: legs, brain, stomach, fingers, etc.
  • Other organisms have different amounts

Slide 18 - Slide

You don't need to learn these amounts for the test!
!
Do you notice anything about these amounts?

Slide 19 - Slide

DNA

Lots of base pairs together form genes
A base pair is made of 2 pieces, these are called bases.
T and A form a pair
C and G form a pair
Other pairs do not exist in DNA.
DNA is shaped like a ladder.
The ladder is built by using lots of  base pairs.
A gene is the genetic code for a certain trait/characteristic.

Slide 20 - Slide

You got one half of a DNA-'ladder'. on this part you find the bases ATGGCCTTTA, What bases would be on the half that fits on this one?
