What are Possessive Pronouns?

Possessive pronouns are words that show ownership or possession of something or someone. Examples are my, your, his, her, its, our, your, and their.

My, Your, His, Her, Its

These are possessive pronouns used for singular nouns. My is used for something that belongs to me, your for something that belongs to the person being spoken to, his for something that belongs to him, her for something that belongs to her, and its for something that belongs to a thing.

Our, Your, Their

These are possessive pronouns used for plural nouns. Our is used for something that belongs to us, your for something that belongs to the people being spoken to, and their for something that belongs to them.

Possessive pronouns can be used to replace nouns in a sentence. For example, instead of saying 'The book belongs to John', you can say 'The book is his'.
