To Western Europe
  • Economic Migrants
  • Mostly from Poland, also from Romania
  • People have jobs like nurses and docters in their own country, but come to the Netherlands for example to work in factories (unskilled work)
  • The wages are much higher in Western Europe, even in unskilled jobs

  • Workers became scarce because of the migration to Western Europe
  • Population decrease: emigration + negative birth rate
  • Immigration (workers) from China -> factories can keep on working

  • Open borders: the largest flow goes to the 'richer' parts, and a small flow of elderly people from old people who move to warmer countries
  • Migrant workers from outside of Europe come to work here (refugees). (Asylum-seekers, if they don't get asylum, some of them stay illegal)
  • Fort Europe: the EU has strict rules for immigrants
