Wat is het verschil in gebruik tussen de past continuous en past simple?

Past simple

We saw an accident yesterday.

Je gebruikt de 'past simple' voor gebeurtenissen in het verleden die zijn afgelopen. 

Past continuous

We were walking the dog when we saw an accident.

Je gebruikt de 'past continuous' om te vertellen dat iets in het verleden een tijdje bezig was, maar nu is gestopt.

Fake story

Form groups of 4

Think about the most excited thing that happened  to you on a holiday that you have ever had. Tell the rest of your group your story, use the past continuous and past simple. Decide if you are going to tell the truth or a fake story. Your classmates will have to decide if your story is true or not.
