Past continuous

I was doing the dishes when the phone rang.

Our neighbour was painting his house when he fell off a ladder.

Je gebruikt de 'past continuous' om te vertellen dat iets in het verleden een tijdje bezig was, maar nu is gestopt. 

Je maakt de 'past continous' met de verleden tijd van 'to be' + werkwoord + ing.
