Around the year 600, a lot of people in Arabia are polytheistic.

However, a lot of people become monotheistic.

This is because of the trader Mohammed. He believes there is only one god: Allah.

The angel Jibril tells Mohammed to spread his belief.

He is a prophet and it is his task to tell people about Allah. 

A lot of people do not want to hear about Allah and Mekka has to leave Mecca.

The hijrah

In 622 Mohammed flees to Medina

A lot of Christians and Jews live there.

As a prophet of their God as well, he gains a lot of followers. They call themselves muslims. 

This is the start of the islamic calendar.

From Medina, the islam is spreading very quickly. 

Mohammeds stories are written down in the Quran. 

The Quran says Allah is the creator of the earth and life.

Also, the pillars of Islam are written down in the Quran.
