Adjectives add 'flavour'

 to a sentence!

Waar staat de adjective

• voor het noun (people, place and things) dat het omschrijft e.g.: a sharp knife
• achter de werkwoorden (verb) to be, to look, to appear, to seem: e.g.: The knife is sharp. 
• Een combinatie: e.g.: The small knife is sharp.

Hoe worden ze gebruikt  

• smaak aan te duiden
• geluid te verduidelijken 
• kleur aan te geven  
• grootte aan te duiden
• vorm aan te duiden
• tijd aan te duiden 
• hoeveelheid te omschrijven
• emotie te beschrijven

Examples:

bitter, spicy, tasty, fruity 

silent, loud, squealing, quiet  

gray, yellow, red, black

large, little, fat, giant 

round, oval, curved 

annual, daily, short

few, some, several 

bad, fine, mad, lazy 

Hoe worden ze gebruikt:  

• voorkomen te beschrijven
• situatie te omschrijven
• voorwerp te beschrijven 
• herkomst te beschrijven

Examples: 

skinny, shiny, attractive 

honest, imperfect, simple 

cool, dry, filthy, hot 

Dutch, Chinese, German 

Weetjes   

• Adjectives blijven hetzelfde in zowel het enkelvoud als het meervoud, e.g.:  the Dutch teacher(s)
•  Je kan twee adjectives samenvoegen d.mv. een koppelteken, e.g.: last-minute, home-made

Examples

• All the young Chinese students were sitting around the square green table. 
• The car dealer had a large collection of vintage sports cars in his showroom.
