Nienke is a name from Friesland. Fries is actually an official language. It is spelled Nynke or Nienke and this comes from Catharina. This comes from the Greek word katharos which means clean and pure.

Unit description (MB)
This unit allows students to explore how learning Dutch is affecting the personal language situation in relation to other language learners. Students experience the various backgrounds of languages they speak. This unit gives us the chance to look critically at our sources and at the way information is communicated. Students also use several different skills to explore their knowledge about languages in relation to identity and different cultures.
