• Renaissance = Rebirth
• The middle ages were not the best times to live in.
• People start to long back to the time of Antiquity.
• Knowledge was lost in the middle ages, thanks to the fall of constantinople we get this knowledge back.

Why did it start in Northern Italy?

• There were rich city states and people
• Antiquity was still visible in Rome
• Refugees/knowledge from the east

-Fall of Constantinople (Instanbul) in 1453

-Scholars, architects, scientist, artist etc. fled to the Italian city-

states

-Knowledge of antiquity now returned to Europe
