You need to be able to recognize imagery, similes, metaphors and alliterations.

: comparison of 2 unlike things, marked by use of the words "like" or "as"

: comparison of 2 unlike things, marked by use of the verb to be and NOT words like "like" or "as"

: Repeated consonant (= medeklinker) sounds at the beginning or within words.

Alliteration creates melody, establishes mood, calls attention to important words, and points out similarities and contrasts.

Answer formulation on the test
When writing the answer to a question:
Read the question/task carefully.
ALWAYS explain your answer. Give arguments.
Often, your argument is stronger when using an example from the short story.
Use literary devices when describing things (make sure you study them and understand the definitions)
If you don't know a word, always describe it (this doesn't count for literary devices, you NEED to know the terminology!).
