Relative Pronouns

Een Relative Pronoun geeft ons meer informatie over dieren/dingen. 

Who: gebruik je bij mensen. 

- The boy who is taking an exam today

Whose: gebruik je als iemand iets bezit of heeft. 

- Robert, whose job is to be a teacher, has a day off today. 

Relative Pronouns

Which  gebruik je bij dieren en dingen. 

Which gebruik je wannner je de informatie weg kunt laten. Which staat dan tussen komma's en die zin is niet essentieel. 

- The strawberry ice cream, which is the most popular, is sold out. 

Het gedeelte van which kun je weglaten en de betekenis van de zin is hetzelfde. 

Relative Pronouns

That gebruik je bij dieren en dingen. 

That gebruik je als de de informatie NIET weg kunt laten. Je gebruikt in dit geval ook geen komma's. 

- The lasagne that I wanted to eat is gone. 

Our new table, ...... is made from recycled wood, looks great.

Sentences

We hebben verschillende soorten zinnen: 

- simple sentences

- compound sentences

- complex sentences

Simple sentences: deze zin heeft 1 onderwerp en 1 werkwoord die de tijd laat zien (toekomst/verleden). E.g.: 

- I cycle to school everyday. 

Sentences

Je kunt twee simple sentences bij elkaar voegen door linking words: and, or, but, so. Als je dit doet krijg je: 

Compound sentences. -> I cycle to school everday, but I hate cycling. 

--> Er zijn dus 2 onderwerpen en 2 werkwoorden. 

Sentences

Je kunt een voorwaardelijke/resultatieve bijzin toevoegen door linking words als: because, although, after, when, before, which, that, who, whose. Dan krijg je: 

Complex sentences: 

I cycle to school everyday because I live far away. --> Het naar school fietsen is dus een resultaat van het ver weg wonen. 

I saw a man just now who was wearing a blue hat.
