Deze drie werkwoorden noemen we hulpwerkwoorden. Ze staan altijd met een hoofdwerkwoord in een zin.

betekenis:

may = mogen

might = zou mogen

Om toestemming vragen en deze geven.

Daarna volgt het hele werkwoord.

You may not borrow my pen. I am using it now.

** might kun je niet gebruiken om toestemming te geven.**

Je gebruikt 'to be allowed to'  om te zeggen dat

iets (niet) is toegestaan volgens de regels.

Denk aan regels op school, wetten etc.

Je gebruikt will + hele werkwoord als: 

- iemand een voorspelling doet zonder dat er bewijs is. 

- iemand iets van plan is / een beslissing maakt en dat op dat moment aangeeft. 

 

- Marly: "Let's go on holiday with a nice group of friends!" 

- Patrick: "What a good plan! We will invite our dear friends to come with us!" 

--> Patrick geeft het op dit moment aan --> will + hele werkwoord 

 

- I think that the weather will be fantastic tomorrow 

- Perhaps the sun will shine tomorrow. 

--> Er is geen bewijs --> will + hele werkwoord

To be going to

Je gebruikt to be going to + hele werkwoord als: 

- iemand een voorspelling doet en er bewijs is. 

- iemand iets van plan is / een beslissing maakt en dat al vaststaat / eerder is afgesproken. 

 

- Frits: "Patrick told me you're going on holiday." 

- Marly: "Yes, we are going to invite our dearest friends to come with us." 

--> Het is al eerder afgesproken --> to be going to + hele werkwoord 

 

- He read that the weather is going to be great next week. 

- Look at the dissappearing clouds. It is going to be sunny any moment now. 

--> Er is wel bewijs (hij las het / ziet het gebeuren) --> to be going to + hele werkwoord

FUTURE PRESENT CONTINUOUS 

Je kunt de present continuous gebruiken voor afspraken die je hebt gemaakt die nog gaan plaatsvinden ( in de nabije toekomst ) waar de tijd en/of plaats al vaststaat. 

 

- Next Saturday she is working at our favourite restaurant! 

- My dentist is taking care of my teeth tomorrow.

FUTURE PRESENT SIMPLE 

Je gebruikt de present simple  als je spreekt over tijdschema’s, roosters en dienstregelingen in de toekomst (dit noemen we dan de future present simple): 

 

- My work starts at nine o'clock. 

- We stay in Paris for one more week. 

- The bus leaves in 30 minutes.
