Een bijvoeglijk naamwoord (adjective) zegt iets over een zelfstandig naamwoord (noun).

Beyoncé is a                good             singer

                                     adjective            noun

Een bijwoord (adverb) zegt iets over een werkwoord (verb)., hoe iets gebeurt

He         talked         nervously.

            verb              adverb

adverb = adjective + ly

adjective:    the beautiful girl

adverb:         she sings beautifully

Be careful!!

                      adjective -le             =             adverb -ly

                        terrible                                       terribly

Be careful!!

    adjective:  ends with -ic (fantastic)

    adverb:       +ally (fantastically)

Be careful!!

    adjective:  medeklinker +y (easy)

    adverb:       ily (easily)

Be careful!!

Bij sommige werkwoorden (zintuigen) gebruik je geen bijwoord, maar een bijvoeglijk naamwoord.

to be (zijn), to seem (lijken), to feel (voelen), to smell (ruiken), 

to sound (klinken), to taste (smaken)

Het ruikt vreselijk. - It smells terrible.

Be careful!!

Sommige bijvoeglijke naamwoorden hebben een heel ander bijwoord.

He is a good boy. - He studies well.

Bij sommige bijvoeglijke naamwoorden is het bijwoord hetzelfde!

Bij fast, long, fast, low

That is a fast car. - It drives fast. 

The man drives..............
