At the end of this module you will have:

What health risks do you face
as a cabin attendant?

How can you avoid getting sick?

• make sure you are rested,
• eat healthy,
• have a good condition (you sometimes run 10 km),
• protect yourself against diseases,
• have your vaccinations in order,
• use medication wisely

What happens if you call in sick?

• your place in the crew needs to be filled
• a colleague on standby is called (reserve)
• this colleague has to be at Schiphol within an hour
• your schedule is cancelled 

Would you call in sick if you had a cold?

1. Yes
2. No, a cold is not sick
3. only if I can't clear my ears

Group assignment:

Think together whether you are allowed to fly in the cases below:

• pregnancy
• medicine use (cough medicine, sleeping pills, drugs)
• alcohol consumption
• donating blood
• stress
• tropical diseases

• pregnancy: generally not (some airlines up to 12 weeks)
• use of medication: in consultation with the airline doctor
• alcohol consumption: 10 hours before flight nothing, 24 hours not drunk!
• donate blood: wait 24 hours before flying
• stress: has a bad effect on your functioning 
• tropical diseases: malaria, dengue

Find the fastest way to get to Schiphol Airport (do, Dec 5):

1. from Zwolle station

2. from a friend's house in Zandvoort (see reader page 11)

3. from your aunt's house in Amsterdam (see reader page 11)

figure this out for:

1. a morning flight (05.30 report at Schiphol)

2. an evening flight (report at Schiphol at 20.05 )

• Synchronising your cabin app
• Read all flight information, e.g. where are infants?
• Red notices (changes in procedures)
• Position 4 = right and responsible for the passenger briefing at the emergency exit

• arrive on time!
• introduce yourself (hand + name)
• make eye contact
• take an active part in the conversation
• show interest in your colleagues

Company Ipad:

• data will be uploaded 2 days in advance
• before the briefing you have studied this data
• ‘red notices’ (TUIfly) are last-minute changes
• this way you will have less surprises on board!

• boarding time pax, departure time, flying time, time difference
• configuration (how many seats are in which class?)
• total number of pax booked (how many seats are occupied?) 

Introduction round

• who works at what position?
• what additional tasks (extra tasks: boarding CA, toilet check, final galley check, handing out toys, exit CA)
• other particularities (toilets unserviceable?)
• who is the cockpit crew?
• questions: who has medical knowledge, speaks other languages, has other qualities?
