  • This theme is all about reading strategies Predicting,skimming, scanning, visualizing and referencing.
  • By learning how to use these strategies the aim is to make you a better reader.

  • A reading test in week 6/7 (During Finals)
  • A book report of a book of your choice. A link with a reading list will be in the Studiewijzer. If you want to choose your own book please ask me first.

Who is the man in the picture and what is he famous for?

  • Today's class is all about predicting.
We will practise predicting with  few assignments and exercises.
  • After we practise we will look at how predicting works and how it will help you in becoming a better reader.

  • Movie posters need to tell a story in one picture and limited text (title and tagline)
  • Can you predict the story, genre, main character by looking at a movie poster?
  • Make groups of 4
  • You will all receive a poster. If you have seen the movie in question please join another group.
  • You have 2 minutes to write down as much as you can of what you think the movie is about.
  • After the 2 minutes are up you all have one minute to share your predictions about the movie with the class.

  • Genre of the movie
  • Main character
  • Setting (time, place)

  • As with the movie posters: predict what type of story it is
  • What genre? Who is the protagonist? etc..

When you predict you:
  • Look at the title
  • Look at headings
  • Look at pictures
  • Look at words that are bold , underlined or in Italics
  • Look at numbers
  • Think of everything you already know about this topic

  • The stars indicate the level of difficulty
  • Pick the level that suits you
  • Vwo students pick at least a 2 star article
  • Be sure to read the headline and answer the questions BEFORE you read the article
