Adverbs of place and time come at the end of the sentence. 
Place always before time. 
If time is very important to the sentence, it goes at the start of the sentence.

To understand where to place adverbs of frequency, manner and degree, basic sentence structure needs to be understood.

Basic sentence structure (SVOMPT)

Basic: Subject, verb, object, manner, place, time

All sentences have the first two (Subject, verb)
and can have a combination of the rest or them all.

My dad reads the newspaper
Sally walks slowly to school today

  • Time > a few minutes ago.

Adverbs of frequency - Summary
 Subject - adverb of frequency - verb  ----->  I usually wake up at 7.

Two Exceptions to this rule: 
1) When there is a form of to be - then always after "to be"
-----> I am always late for school. 
-----> She is never going to buy me a Christmas present.
2) More than one verb - then after the first verb.
-----> Peter has never been to Italy. 
-----> We don't usually go to Granny's house on Mondays.

Adverbs of frequency- Antwoord het vraag: Hoe vaak? / How often? 
Gebruik:
  • Je gebruikt "Adverbs of frequency" om extra informatie te geven over hoe vaak iets gebeurd.

Plaats in de zin:
  • Één werkwoord in de zin > bijwoord zet je voor het werkwoord
  • Twee werkwoorden in de zin > bijwoord zet je na de eerste werkwoord 
  • Vorm van to be (am, are, is, was, were) > bijwoord zet je achter de vorm van to be
  • Ontkenning in de zin met do of did > bijwoord zet je na de ontkenning (Nog steeds twee werkwoorden)

Voorbeelden:
  • I always wear a bodywarmer.
  • He has never worked a day in his life.
  • They are usually on time.

Nadruk op "frequency"
Zet het bijwoord (adverb) aan het eind of begin van een zin.
Dit is alleen mogelijk met de volgende bijwoorden; frequently, occassionally, often, sometimes, usually and normally

>> Sometimes, I wonder why people behave the way they do.
>> He does his homework occassionally.

Adverbs of Manner - "Hoe dan? / How?"
Fast, well, slowly, quietly, quickly, beautifully, : geef aan hoe de actie is uitgevoerd

Ze geven meer informatie over het werkwoord.
Positie in de zin: op het einde van de zin of vóór het hoofdwerkwoord. Na het werkwoord als er geen voorwerp is, anders na het voorwerp, 
       She walked slowly through the street
       I grabbed my bag quickly or I quickly grabbed my bag.    
      They nervously waited for the President.
  
Nooit tussen het werkwoord en het voorwerp!  >>>>   I grabbed quickly my bag

- Very, really, too, 

Vóór het woord waar ze iets van zeggen 
       He is very friendly.
       The bus driver drove really fast.  
        Don't go in there. It's too dangerous!
        I really hate soggy sanwiches
