Het beantwoordt de vraag wat voor?

beautiful is dan het bijvoeglijk nmw., want het zegt iets over het meisje / girl.

What is the Adjective in this sentence?
"They live in a big house."

Een bijwoord zegt iets over een werkwoord.

Dit geeft antwoord op de vraag hoe?

The girl sings beautifully.

Hoe zingt ze? beautifully. 

Dit is dus een bijwoord.

Een bijwoord kan ook iets zeggen over een bijvoeglijk naamwoord (wat iets zegt over een zelfstandig naamwoord).
