Explanation: space race

During the cold war the USA and the Soviet Union were in a space race. 

With the help of the space race these super powers wanted to show their strenght.

In 1957 the russians launched the first satellite called the Sputnik.

In 1957 the russains launched the dog Laika into space.

In response the USA founded NASA in 1958. NASA had to beat the russians into space.

In 1961 the russians launched the first man in space. His name is Yuri Gagarin

In 1962 Kennedy announced that USA with be first on the moon

In 1969 the Appolo 11 reached the moon. Neil Armstrong is the first man on the moon.

Today we live in:

The industrial society made way for an information society. Information and communication technology (ICT) became an important source of employment and economic growth.

Examples of ICT are: telephone, computer, television, internet, etc.

The world became more connected. We call this globalisation.

We are becoming more and more connected because of inventions of ICT and transport.

One of the most developments is the population explosion. This growth took almost entirely in the third world (developing countries)

In 1990 the countries within the United Nations made an agreement to fight certain problems. In 2015 they wanted the reach the millenium goals.
