Etape 1: Pré-lecture

The teacher explains that this phase corresponds to Strand ii in the reading assessment rubric

Strand ii: Analyse conventions in a wide variety of simple and some complex authentic texts

• Regardez le texte

• Voila six indices (clues) de pré-lecture

1) le ton/le langage                         2) le type                          3) les conventions

4) le temps (tense)                        5) l'objectif                       6) le public cible

• Chaque groupe prend deux indices. Formulez une question par indice et discutez les réponses Par exemple: Quel est le ton du texte?

• Aussi, demandez à vos partenaires : Qu'est-ce que tu en penses? Pourquoi? Par exemple: Pourquoi tu penses que c'est le thème?

                                                         

• Puis, cliquez sur la diapo suivante. Partagez vos questions et réponses en groupe 

• The teacher provides six before-reading clues to students based on strand ii reading outcomes.
•  Each group will choose 2 clues and work on formulating 2 before-reading questions.  The teacher can allot time for this task
• The groups will  discuss answers and create their own higher order thinking questions 
• Students will share their group questions on Padlet and comment on each other’s questions

• Notez les mots difficiles dans la première colonne. 

• Discutez en groupes et remplissez le graphic organiser  en entier

• The teacher explains that students need to skim the text for unknown and/or difficult words. 
• They will note the words in the 1st column of the Unknown words detective graphic organiser. 
• The teacher instructs that students will use their own strategies to infer meanings of those words. The teacher can provide a model example with a word.

• Faites un résumé des idées importantes du texte (20 mots ) dans vos cahiers

• Des astuces: Utilisez de belles structures pour résumer

Par exemple: Dans le texte, on parle du /de la/des/...................

                                         

• Notez: C'est un travail individuel

• Echangez vos cahiers et donnez du feedback (What went well? Even better if?)

• The teacher asks students to refer back to the Question journal and resume important ideas of the text in about 20 words .
•  The teacher explains that it is an individual task that students will write in their notebooks. 
• The teacher will move around in groups and ask students to exchange their copies to give peer feedback on the written summaries.

Strand iii: Analyse connections in a wide variety of simple and some complex authentic texts

The teacher explains that they will now proceed to Strand iii reading outcomes.

• Students will look at the 4 types of text connections and formulate a question for each  text connection.
• The teacher asks students to discuss answers orally. 
• The teacher can circulate among groups to see if students are on the task at hand and assist in case of doubts/questions.
