Learning Objectives 
By the end of the session, all learners will be able to:

Understand further requirements of the EYFS 2024 and how this can be applied to assignment 1 (K1.9) 

Research the importance of support early writing skills from birth - 5 years. (K1.11)

Discuss key strategies an EYP can use to effectively demonstrate good practice to support children. (K1.11)

Starter Task 
As part of the EYFS 2024 it is important to be able to understand and successfully utilise the 5  overarching principles.

In your note books, summarise and define each of the principles in accordance to the EYFS
 (Page 7):
1. Unique child 
2. Positive relationships 
3. Enabling environment  
4. Learning and development

The Characteristics of Effective learning (EYFS 2024)
In line with the EYFS there are 3 effective characteristics of teaching and learning that an EYP should be able to use effectively in their practice.

Play and exploring - Encouraging children to have a go. It is important we support them in playing with what they know but also seeking other options. It is important we promote good experiences. 

Active learning - Encouraging children to be involved and keep trying even if they find it hard. Supporting children to enjoy their achievements and what they are set out to do. 

Creating and thinking critically - Children have and develop their own ideas, supporting them engage in strategies that help them to problem solve indepedently.

Head to your emails, open this document and read through the example.

In your notebooks I would like you to take notes on the information you are reading and key information you are taking away. 

I would advise we spend atleast 20 minutes in silence reading through this.

Research task 
Using the link below, analyse the research and summarise your findings by creating a well presented article that clearly underpins the importance of early writing skills.

This needs to be detailed, written in paragraphs and present well.

The purpose of mark making in early years for early writing skills. 
Working in Early Years, it is important you are able to recognise how writing skills can be supported from birth often their is a misconception that babies do not engage in any form of mark making.  

Commercial resources 
Magnetic drawing boards, chalk boards, water doodling mats (babies)
Real life props
Mark marking activities using pencils, envelops, stickies, stamps etc.  
Role play experience
Using opportunities for writing during role play, very important in the preschool room. Writing a sign for their lemonade stall for example.
Blackboards, whiteboards / painting areas
Refine mark marking, copying letters on smart board or white board. Using paint to imitate fine motor movement.
Sensory based play
Using sensory materials and tuff trays to support mark
