Past Simple
a. Regelmatige ww (d.w.z. deze ww volgen een regel)
Regel: ww+ ed bv. talk -> talked ; learn -> learned
Uitzonderingen:
       - eindigt je ww op medeklinker+y, dan wordt deze i +ed
                            bv. marry -> married (let op: played)
       - bij korte ww + ww die eindigen op -l verdubbelt de laatste medeklinker
                            bv. travel -> travelled ; chat -> chatted
       - bij ww die al eindigen op -e voeg je enkel -d toe
                            bv. hate -> hated

b. past simple negative
- van het ww 'to be': wasn't (ow = I, he/she/it of 1p/d/ding) of weren't (ow = you, we, they of meer dan 1 p/d/d)
Example: The dogs weren't happy.

- van alle andere ww:
DIDN'T/DID NOT + INFINITIVE (= eindigt NIET op -ed!)
 Example: to go -> We didn't go to the party.

       Example: The girl was reading a book.

       Example: The dogs were barking.

Past Simple or Past Continuous?
1. Pa cont – pa simple: ‘when/while’- zinnen
Combinatie past continuous – past simple: 1 long action, 1 short action:
  - long action: past continuous (= was/were + verb+ing)
  - short action: past simple
Example: When the buss arrived, we were running towards it.

2. 2x past continuous in een zin: ‘while’-zinnen: 2 long actions
 Example: I was taking a bath while he was reading a book.

Example: sweet -> sweeter than
Opgelet: 1. eindigt je woord al op -e, voeg dan enkel -r toe.
Example: nice -> nicer than
                 2. eindigt je woord op -y, dan wordt deze -y een -i
Example: pretty -> prettier than

Opgelet: 1. eindigt je woord al op een -e, dan voeg je enkel -st toe
Example: brave -> the bravest

Example: pretty -> the prettiest
